Note. Eugène Louis Lequesne (1815-1887) was a French sculptor whose work was inspired by antiquity, as here his subject is derived from the classical Venus-Aphrodite type. His sculpture, often commissioned, now decorates the Luxembourg gardens, the Louvre, the Opera, the Gare du Nord and the Palais de Justice in Paris as well as the basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde in Marseille, and is exhibited in the museums of the Louvre, Amiens, Bordeaux, Chartres, Lille, Roanne and Versailles.
