Annamese water-dripper
Forani Collection
Cat. No: CH74-950
Water-dripper of ceramic, white with features in under-glaze blue. Annamese, early 15th century, Vietnam. L < 6.00 cm. Acquired: London.
Note. The water-dripper was part of the everyday materials needed for writing being used in the making of ink. This was done by grinding an ink-stick against an ink-stone to make a powder to which a small quantity of water was added according to the density of the ink required. This particular water-dripper was illustrated and described in Chinese & Annamese Ceramic by Adrian Joseph, published by Hugh Moss, 1973.
